World Intelligent Driving Challenge
The World Intelligent Driving Challenge (WIDC) is an internationally authoritative and influential competition and a premier platform for international exchanges in the industry. It presents standards for testing related technologies. Through all-dimensional testing in autonomous driving, intelligent assistance, information security and virtual scenarios, WIDC provides authoritative and impartial third-party services for intelligent driving technologies, standards and rules making as well as consumption and knowledge dissemination. The 2nd WIDC will be co-organized by the People’s Government of Dongli District, China Automotive Technology & Research Center, China Productivity Promotion Center and the Autonomous Driving Committee of the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence. The competition will have four contests in autonomous driving, intelligent assistance, information security and virtual testing. The testing scenarios and rules are more complete and strict than last year. Apart from closed roads, there will be expressway, off-road, and open-road testing in the autonomous driving contest. Dozens of scenarios are included, for example safe driving, travel efficiency, and information services. The intelligent assistance contest includes six scenarios, namely pre-collision system, lane departure warning system, PA automatic parking system, lane keeping system, rear traffic warning system, and adaptive cruise control system. The information security contest is upgraded to attacks through wireless connections. It will become a national and even international innovation contest. The newly added virtual testing contest will connect the virtual testing system of AAI, a German company, to vehicles. By using the simulated road, weather and traffic conditions, it tests the perceptive, decision-making and executive functions. The results will provide reliable criterion for intelligent vehicle R&D and product improvement. The challenge attracts nearly 90 teams from companies, universities and research institutes of China, the US, Germany and Japan. There is a rules-making team of 70 top Chinese and international experts and a judging panel of 150. Over 100 industry leaders and academics will be invited as observers. The challenges will be broadcast by China Central Television and Tianjin TV and reported by over 100 Chinese and international media outlets. There are also opportunities for audiences to have hands-on experiences of intelligent driving. An intelligent driving demonstration will deliver an authentic experience of the intelligent driving technology.
World Intelligent Drones Contest
The 2nd WIC will take place in Tianjin in May. The eco-city management committee implements the instructions of the party committee and government of Tianjin and work under the guidance of the WIC Organizing Committee to host the World Intelligent Drones Contest in the Tianjin Eco-city. The eco-city builds a venue for the contest, the first venue for technology competition in the eco-city. The venue is located in Building No.5 of the Hongbin Start-up Park, with an area of 3,900 square meters on two floors. It is made up of modules and can be extended for different scenarios in future contests. The lanes are made of modules of diverse materials. With different lighting systems, the limited space has complicated scenarios, elevations, slopes and multi-angle curves. These designs add difficulty to the contest, and bring different experiences and perceptions for the operators and spectators, making the contest professional and true to real life situations. The contest is an invitational competition. Top drone operators from China, US, UK Australia, France, Austria, Singapore and Thailand will participate. Among the Chinese participants, there are Li Kunhuang and Chen Songwen, who represented China at the World Drone Prix in Dubai. Among the international contestants, there are Duncan, a DRL operator, Gary Kent from X-Blade, Walter Kirsch and Bastian Hackl from TBS.
“China Hualu Cup” Open Data Innovation and Application Contest
Under the theme “Intelligent City Governance”, the contest aims to tap into the value of data and relies on the city data lake of eHualu. The governance data of Tianjin is open to the public for the first time. The contest has two parts: algorithm and innovation. Top research teams and innovators in science and technology will participate in the contest and develop targeted big data solutions to address the pain points and challenges in city governance, so as to promote big data applications and artificial intelligence. The contest is made of the preliminary, semi-final and training camp. It opens on May 17, 2018. The final road show and award ceremony will take place in November in the Hualu Future Science Park in the Jinnan District in November. Hualu provides 1 million RMB as the award and 50 million RMB as an incubation fund for the industry. It will also provide technical and office support to the winners to help to commercialize and promote the results of the competition. The “China Hualu Cup” Open Data Innovation and Application Contest is an authoritative competition in China. People from home and abroad are welcome to visit the official website of WIC and follow the event.
